NYPD RECRUITMENT

Starting salary for an NYPD officer is currently $25,100. For $25,000 NYC expects an officer to obtain 60 college credits and survive the high cost of living of NYC on this menial salary. Officers are subjected to months of training, erratic scheduling, public scrutiny and an administration that refuses to settle a contract, which is outdated by almost three years. The department, due to its low starting pay, will suffer recruitment shortages for years to come. Cost of living in NYC is one of the highest in the nation, but NYC pays its officers one of the lowest salaries in the nation. How can the NYPD expect to lure candidates to risk their lives on a daily basis when you can't even assure potential recruits that they can pay the rent at the end of the month?
